Will had two firsts today! He's getting the hang of crawling and had his best crawl/flip flop session so far this afternoon. Today was also his first time eating yummy rømmegrøt (a norwegian porridge)!

The Long Journey to Monterey...
So we're finally settled (seems like a relative term) here in Monterey, California. More specifically, we're in a little town called Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula about a mile from the coast. What a change from our snowy, cold, clear and beautiful Alaska experience. There is definitely a sense of calm at the Bryan household after our adventures of 2010 and early 2011 that brought us to our new duty station. After living out of suit cases for nearly 4 months, we're finally able to take a deep breath and unpack some of our baggage.
Speaking of unpacking... we now have a really cute carry-on bundle of joy to bring with us on our adventures. We named our little boy, William Wrangell, born on February 15th at 8lbs 9oz in Anchorage, Alaska. Though he loved long walks along the coastal trails in Anchorage all bundled up in his snow gear, we think he's just fine with the slightly warmer sunny walks along the Pacific Coast here in Monterey. Not a bad duty station to enjoy time with the family and no deployments!! Home every night, together on the weekends... such a blessing!
We left Anchorage on March 10th headed for Monterey, Grant drove and Sara and baby flew down to Grandma and Grandpa's house in Silverton, Oregon. Grant was fortunate to have his brother in-law along for the 3100-mile drive along the ALCAN Highway through Alaska, Yukon Territory and British Columbia, then down through Washington... a beautiful drive! Motivated by seeing our wives and kids again quickly, we hit the US-Canadian border in Washington in a little over 48 hours (2,300 miles in 2 days).
After Will's 1-month birthday, we headed for Monterey to look for a place to live. After only 1 week in a hotel, we found a cute little house in Pacific Grove (only 4 miles away from the Naval Postgraduate School along a beautiful coastal trail).
We'll post more in the near future, but for now, here are a couple pictures of our little Will and some of our 2011 moving adventures.

A Return Home...
After 15 months in Naples, Italy, Sara and I have returned home to Alaska for the winter. Though we truly enjoyed our time in Italy, we're thrilled to be home once again; not only back in Alaska, but also back in the United States! God Bless America!
It's obviously been a very long time since we've updated our blog, so hopefully this brief, yet detailed posting gets everyone caught up enough to feel "reconnected" with the Bryans :)
The most important event of our lives is 'due' to arrive any day now! Sara and I are expecting our first baby in the very near future! In fact, Sara's due date was yesterday! With that being said, if you don't see any postings over the next year or so following this blog, we've likely chosen to prioritize in a way that precludes blogging. Hopefully we will manage to keep up while also parenting, though I'm not too optimistic. Either way, we will at least post picture of our little son as soon as he gets here.
On 15 December we left Naples. I was on the road a lot during that tour, but thankfully Sara traveled with me at every opportunity. After multiple deployments in Yokosuka, Japan and Everett, Washington, being in Europe with Sara was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed getting to know our temporary home, wonderful neighbors and got to see so much of that part of the world. We got to spend our first week back in the States with the Bryans in Wyoming for Christmas, then departed for 10 weeks of temporary assignment as an Officer Recruiter in Anchorage.
Now we start the next phase in our life... We depart in mid-March for 2 years of graduate school at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. We look forward to meeting some new friends and being together as a family (all three of us!) without the interruptions of deployments and business travel. Following grad school we will head to Newport, Rhode Island for 6 months of training before being assigned to our new duty station onboard one of 286 US Navy warships stationed around the world.
Our time in Alaska has been truly wonderful. We've enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, frequenting the Wilson's cabin north of Anchorage, and going on long walks around the city... and with Anchorage's 120 miles of groomed trails, it's been a treat! Needless to say, we've also reconnected with the local coffee shops around town (especially Kaladi's & George's cafe downtown) and I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a breakfast of french toast, reindeer sausage and eggs at Gwennie's Old Alaska Restaurant with my good friend Ryan (who flew in for 48 hours prior to his upcoming deployment)! It's been great to have family and friends come up to visit us over the past couple weeks (all with the hopes of meeting baby Bryan), but it's been especially great to know that both of our mom's will be in town to meet their new grandson next week!
